So you want to develop your business idea?
Hmmm…what are you reading?
Coming from humble beginnings in Jamaica, where he partially grew up, Dijian Eccles is no stranger to directing, editing or producing. Responsible for spearheading the production company Dmnd Clr, Eccles has been able to work with small artists on self-funded projects to much larger funded endeavours, whilst still continuing to push the limits and committing to growth. With names such as Izzy Bizu, Krept & Konan, Loski and Emile Sande under his belt, we caught up with the self-driven, director to asking about his business, his reading and of course, his book recommendations.
How would you best describe your company?
We’re a service-based production company, creating videos for clients across promo, content and film.
When did you discover the idea for your company?
We noticed the gap in the market through being artist ourselves and needing more competitive pricing.
What are your top 3 visual pieces of 2021?
1) Izzy Bizu – M.G
2) Dizzee Rascal- Act Like You Know
3) Kali Claire – Seen Me Like This
What valuable lesson, learnt through reading, have you been able to apply to your business?
The most valuable lesson I’ve learnt, through any form of reading, is that as a business owner you’ll always need to have blueprint of how you intend to move and what resources you’ll need along the way.
What was the first meaningful book you recall reading?
It has to be Think & Grow Rich.
What was the last book you read?
Last book I’ve read is ‘Ask & It’s Given’.
What is your relationship with reading like?
My relationship with reading is up and down, but I’ve essentially learnt it’s ok to have that on and off relationship with it because sometimes I need that time to read something, go away and process it as well as implementing it into my reality, which presents new questions. The beautiful thing about it is, most times when you come back to picking up where you left from the next chapter relates to that new understanding you have realised, so it works hand in hand.
How much of an importance does reading have to you?
Reading allows me to have the mentor I would have never had.
